Night Out with Russian Red Lipstick

I am a huge fan of red lips and I love wearing red lipstick. Red lips look so classic and elegant especially for a night out. When I usually wear red lips I either go neutral on the eyes or if I’m feeling really bold or want to have that smoldering look, I wear a smokey eye. I went neutral here. I wore this for a night out with the girls. I also contoured my face here. I don’t usually contour my face because sometimes I just think it’s too much, for my taste, but I do think its good for a special night out from time to time, The lighting was pretty poor but I tried to get some better pictures 😦

Look of the Day-October Sunrise

It’s been too hot here in Los Angeles for going on 2 months or so with no break. Humid hot! We’re spoiled in LA and not used to dead heat for weeks at a time. I’ve been pretty miserable and haven’t felt like wearing makeup because I sweat it off just sitting still. Then my skin has been acting up because of the heat and sweat…I’ve been a mess! It was 90+ degrees yesterday but I really wanted to do some makeup so I decided to suck it up.
I was inspired by watching the sun rise from my window, since I haven’t been sleeping due to the heat. The sky was filled with yellow and Orange and the sight was just gorgeous. Hope you like the look! I had fun with it despite sweating profusely.

RMS Beauty Samples from Spirit Beauty Lounge

image

How Cute and Personal is this!?

While doing a search trying to find new cosmetics brands to try out, I came across this brand, RMS Beauty on this website, spiritbeautylounge.com. The site only sells brands that are natural and organic. They are a green, cruelty free site who picks the products they want to sell that meets their criteria of natural, organic, and humane.

The Brand RMS has two products that caught my eye; Their Cream Eyeshadows and Lip2Cheek. Personally I love cream eyeshadows and blushes because they just look so much more natural on the skin. Professionally I really wanted more all around products so I don’t have to lug around so many products.

What I really liked about the site is that they sell samples to try before buying them. I really hate buying products before trying them first, especially if the products are on the pricy side. And when buying online, unless it’s free to return the products(thank you Sephora), it’s really not worth the hassle or the price to return cosmetics, in my opinion. So I thought this was a brilliant way to try these products. For $25, you get 9 samples from any brand sold on the site plus three free samples. I got them today and thought I’d share my goodies. I will test these babies out within the next week or so and do reviews really soon!

The shipping was really quick. I Ordered these late last Thursday night and they came today, Monday!

I was a little disappointed in the sample sizes at first sight because I really want to test them out and get more than 2 uses out of them, 4 at best. But I must say that I used one of the Lip2cheek shades today on my lips and cheek and I really didn’t use a lot of product. So I’m hoping I get a few uses out these! We shall see.  I am so excited! I love trying out new beauty brands!

I got 4 of the cream eyeshadows:

Weather you wear makeup everyday, on special occasions, or if you’re not really a fan of makeup or don’t know how to use it, this list gives a nice basic idea of what you should have stashed away. You never know when you’ll need to get all dolled up for a day, or night, out. Here’s s few essentials you should have in your home drawers, cabinets etc. It doesn’t need to be expensive but since it’s going on your face it should be a good quality. I’m happy to see a lot of the drug store brands like Maybelline, Wet n Wild, L’Oreal etc are stepping up their makeup game! Honestly the brand doesn’t matter as long as you know what you’re doing!

Concealer-Think of it as an instant eye lift and brightener.  Used to brighten any darkness around the eyes, eye bags, and any skin discoloration. If you have great skin with just a few dark spots, redness, and/or darkness around the eyes, just use a concealer that matches your skin, add powder and you’re good to go, skipping the foundation. To highlight the skin or brighten a specific area like under the eyes or even the cheekbones, get a concealer 1 to 2 shades darker than your skin tone and get to highlighting!

Foundation  Used to even out the skin, covering skin discolorations, acne, acne scarring and the like, you should have a good foundation that’s good for your skin type. For oily/combo skin use a cream or powder foundation(you can use a liquid but make sure it’s oil free, stay away from light reflecting foundations and use a mattefying cream or powder). For dry skin use a liquid. For mature skin use a self setting, or anti-aging  foundation( stay away from powders since they tend to settle in the lines.)
Powder Used in conjunction with your foundation to set it so it doesn’t melt off mid day, powder is pretty essential especially if you have oily skin. Powder can help suck up excess oil on the skin. There is a wide range of powders on the market. There are pressed powders, which usually are blot powders, and loose powders that are usually finely milled into a dust like consistency.  There are shimmer powders that give an iridescence to the skin, there are matte powders. Those with mature skin should skip powders altogether because they can settle into fine lines and look cakey on the skin.

Eye Shadow– Keep a few different shades on hand to glam up your look. At least 4 basic colors like brown, gold, ivory and black looks good on just about everyone and it’s good to have a variety of shimmer eye shadows and matte eye shadows.   OR Just opt for a pre-made palette from Urban Decay or Mac with a nice range of color options.

Mascara used to add volume and/or length to your lashes, whether you have long lashes or not. I used to think because my lashes are long and pretty thick, I didn’t need mascara. But mascara can make or break your look. Your eyes and overall look could be flawless and beautiful but if you skip mascara your look will look half-assed.

Blush will bring color back to your face. If you use foundation, the goal is to have a blank canvas so it’s taking away some of your natural color or your skin just might be pale in general,  no matter what your skin color is. There are cream blushes which I love because they make the skin look more natural, giving a more natural glow to the skin. Then there’s powder blush which is also great but it’s easy to add too much which can look too powdery or unnatural. I love both types and its great to brighten the skin as well. What ever texture you decide peachy blushes usually look good on everyone. Corals and pinks are also good. They don’t need to be super bright to look good.

Lipstick, Gloss and/or lip pencil also adds a finishing touch to a look. Gloss or lipstick brings it all together. Even if you opt for a sheer, colorless gloss it just looks good and gloss makes your lips looks fuller too. Again, peachy or pinky tones look more natural and are not so over the top. Lipstick is more pigmented and instantly brings attention to your lips and last longer on your lips. I recommend having one red lipstick or gloss for that special occasion.  Lip pencils are good to keep your lip color from bleeding and good to help it last. Not a lipstick fan, fill in your lips with a pencil, add some clear gloss and you’re good to go.

Eyeliner is good to have but I don’t think it’s always necessary. It really depends on who you are and what your makeup type is. If you’re not into makeup, especially eye makeup, eyeliner is look because it adds some depth and detail to your eyes. If one doesn’t wear eyeshadow, mascara and/or eyeliner is perfect.

Quick Look of the Day

Today I woke up to a beautiful Spring day in LA. The last couple days have been cloudly, windy, dreary, rainy and bipolar with sun coming out here and there, slightly warming things up and then going back in to cool things off.
So to celebrate a lovely day in LA I thought I’d do another colorful but subtle look. The colored liner is the main focus here! Love these guys, Makeup Forever Aqua Liners!! Review is coming very soon!! I am anticipating Mac’s new Spring collection, Hey Sailor, so again I used my Surf Baby Eyeshadows from last year. It’s nothing special or detailed because I only had about 15 minites of extra time to do eye makeup today. I usually don’t wear eye makeup to work because I just don’t have enough time. Sleep is more important! LOL 🙂

Anyway, Hope you like it!

April Favorites!

Here are some of my favorite things this month! I can’t believe this month is over already! However May brings a lot of interesting and exciting events on my calendar. Stay tuned to find out what those are!

Most, if not all, products are worn in some look I’ve previously posted so I didn’t do swatches here. If you’d like a review or have a question about a product listed leave me a comment.
Have a great day!

Foundation

Chanel Perfection Lumiere reviewed here: I fell in love with the sample I got from Macys and I love this for special occasions. It gives a flawless look!

Lip Gloss

Nars Wonder Lipgloss reviewed here:Perfect for the spring and summer seasons. It’s a gorgeous shade that’s not too sublte or too bold.

Lipstick
image

Mac Marquise D’ Lipstick was released with the Wonder Woman collection last year but I fell in love with this lipstick again. It’s a pinky nude color with some shimmer. Great neutral shade for everyone.

Blush
image

Illamasqua Lover: A perfect peach color that brightens the skin; it acts as a blush and a subtle, non shimmery highlight on my skin. I LOVE this shade.

Highlighter

Mac Supurb MSF reviewed here.

Nars Albatross Highlighter looks stark white in the pan but it gives Gorgeous golden shimmer, perfect for every shade! Love this!

Eye Liner

Makeup Forever Aqua Black Cream Liner is black, warerproof, and goes over the eyes super smoothly. Perfect for the waterline since it won’t fade or wash away. You can’t ask for a better liner.

(L-R)Nubile, Beach Blonde, Saffron

Eye Shadows

Mac Beach Blonde, Mac Saffron: Released with Mac to the Beach last summer I thought I’d pull these babies out since it’s officially Spring.  Mac Nubile Paint Pot, I like to use this on it’s own with a darker brown or bronze in the crease to contour the eye. It’s a great nude color with a slight sheen to it.

Movie

American Reuinion: I LOVED the original American Pie movie and the franchise slowly went downhill after(I liked the second but of course it wasn’t as great as the first). Reunion delivered the wrongness and the raunciness that I loved from the first and the ‘Stifmeister’ was on point! Hilarious!

What were some of your favorites this April?

Wonder In Natural Light

Company Description: “Serious shine and sexy color in sheer, semi-sheer and creamy formulas. Extremely wearable and versatile shades may be worn alone or over other lip formulas for added dimension. The portable tube and sponge wand make applying these beautiful glosses, in an array of shades, a snap.”

Product: This gloss is a sheer mandarin orange color with some golden shimmer. It looks great on all skin tones and it’s perfect for spring, summer and if you follow trends since orange lips are the trend this season. The color is really sheer, like most Lip Glosses by Nars, but it adds a nice tint of orange to the lips. It’s subtle so if you are not sure about wearing orange lip colors I think this would be a good starter product. Of course you can make it more bold by adding a liner or lipstick similar in color. The formula is really smooth and light. I love that Nars glosses are not sticky or thick even though I am not a fan of the scent, but I have learned to tolerate the smell some. I can wear this for about 5 hours without eating or drinking before the color is gone.

Packaging: Plastic tube with a doe foot sponge, easy storage and travel friendly.

With Flash

Price: $24 for 0.28oz of product. If you’ve read my past Nars reviews you know I think Nars is a great brand but definitely over hyped and a bit over priced. It is considered a luxury brand so you’re gonna pay for luxury. If you’re a makeup addict you will love the brand and won’t be disappointed however if you’re just starting your makeup obsession, there are lots of cheaper alternatives that are just as good. I’m usually on the fence about the price of Nars products which is why I usually buy them when I have discount codes 😉

So, are you with the orange lip trend or can you do without it?

Blast From the Past- 80’s Makeup Looks

I was going through my pictures on my phone and in my Facebook and I came across some old pictures that I wanted to share. I have gone to 2 different 80’s themed parties so far and I’ve done makeup for both on people. When you think of 80’s makeup you think pink, yellow, red, blue, purple; bright and bold colors that really isn’t for everyday use or work friendly but they are fun and party friendly!  I had so much fun doing these and I think they came out great considering this was a time when I really didn’t know much about makeup, I had no formal knowledge of makeup application and I was doing makeup just for fun because I had so much stuff to use up. For the most part I really was self-taught in doing makeup. You don’t NEED a certificate to work or anything but it does help to learn different techniques and what you don’t really fully understand. Anyhow, here are pictures!

Bright and bold colors and BEADS!Totally 80's!

Red and Purples!

Lots of Pink!

Below is more recent; Last year! I’m sad I didn’t get close up pictures of each lady but as I said this was just for fun! Lots of bright colors! I guess I was going for goth because that’s what I look like! LOL

I did everyone except the lovely lady in the white! Still loving the bows!

Pictures from the Raw:Natural Born Artist Event

Last night I went to the Raw event in Hollywood at the Key Club to support those in the industry and also to meet people and promote myself as a makeup artist. Raw is an independent organization that promotes up and coming artists, photographers, film makers and hair and makeup artists. It’s sponsored by the community and it’s really great exposure to sell yourself in whatever type of art you do. I had the opportunity and pleasure to see some raw talent in makeup, hair, fashion photography, and art. I met some really wonderful people and hopefully made some connections to work with some amazing people. I love being around people who help each other instead of looking at each other as competition or rivals. There was an art gallery where you can check out and buy some works in photography, painting, and drawing. The atmosphere was really inspiring, welcoming and really energetic. I loved being there and I would love to go to another Raw Event in the future.

Later in the night there was a fashion, hair and makeup show which I really enjoyed. I wish I had got more photos of the show but the lighting wouldn’t allow my camera phone to do so. There was some amazing hair and makeup jobs and fashion. I really had a great time and I realized that an artist’s craft is always developing. I have a lot of practicing to do so I’m getting to it.

Here are some up close shots I got before the show started.
