Mac Prep & Prime Face Protect SPF 50

M5Y3

I really like this product because it’s not a heavy feeling SPF so it’s great for oily skin people like myself. It absorbs really quick into the skin so you’re not left with an oily feeling. This isn’t a moisturizer so if you’re looking for that, keep looking. It is just an SPF product.

I wouldn’t necessarily use this as a primer though. I primarily use this as a SPF. Most SPF formulas break me out or make me really oily. This does neither and give me great sun protection. I use this every day under my bare minerals foundation or alone. I feel that when I do use this product, I am left with a white film on my face. Maybe because the SPF is so high. That’s why I wouldn’t use this as a primer. And with any product with SPF when you take pictures you will get the dreaded mask face, where you can actually see the separation of your foundation and your skin, or a white, ashy cast. YUCK! I’ve been a victim of mask and ashy face and it’s not a good look. You look fine in real time but in pictures…..Awful. So I don’t typically wear foundations or primers with a high SPF unless it’s in the day and I do not use them on clients at all. I just stay away unless it’s just for normal, day wear.

The bottle is really small, though compact which makes it nice to travel with. I think it’s a bit high for the size but you only need a small amount to get coverage on your full face so you can stretch it and make it last. I’ve had mine for almost 2 months. I have no idea how much if left because the bottle is black! I don’t necessarily like the packaging because of that issue and because you can’t sit the bottle upright(you can but it wobbles).

I notice when I wear it, mid day my skin starts to feel and look a bit shiny but that’s pretty good for someone like me who gets oily after an hour of washing her face.  Even so my skin isn’t greasy or ridiculous.

SO If you’re looking for a great SPF, I would give this a try. Get a free sample from the MAC store to test it out or buy it and save your receipt in case it doesn’t work out.

Pros:
Not greasy
Light formula
Absorbs fast into the skin
High SPF
Broad Spectrum SPF

Cons:
Small bottle for the price ($30USD) and the cap takes up a nice chunk of the size

Date Night- Red Hot Lips

Valentine’s Day is coming up and I know a lot of people are already planning their nights. What to wear? How should I do my hair and makeup? Where to eat? What should I buy him or her? Personally I despise Valentine’s Day because it is just another hyped, consumer day to spend money and pay for overpriced dinners and gifts. Plus the pressure of keeping the date and finding a great gift does nothing but add to life’s every day pressures. If you love someone you should take them out, buy them flowers, treat them special etc all the time NOT just because it’s Valentine’s Day. Now that my little rant is over, lets get into some makeup!

This is a nice date night(or Valentine’s Day) look with a gold, brown eye with a dramatic liner and red lips. When you’re going out on a date it’s nice to bring attention to the lips. Sexy lips are begging to be kissed! I know men don’t like the lipstick transfer but it does come off. Plus if they’re in the moment and really want to kiss you, they won’t care.

Going to the Beach

The weather has been so gorgeous in LA the last few days, its insane and I almost feel guilty that its cold, snowing, raining in other parts of the country and world….almost.
Anyhow I decided to do a look that’s great for a nice day at the beach. I don’t usually wear makeup when going to the beach because its hot and I don’t want my pores to clog or the makeup to melt off. So this particular makeup is ideal for those who want a natural look that’s light on the skin.

Nailtiques Nail Protein- Formula 2

image

image

It’s really small but there are 3 different sizes

image

Small Size…Obviously

Nailtiques is a nail care system that treats multiple nail problems with six specially formulated protein strengths. It’s not a system in that there are all these many steps and products you need to take to get healthy nails. There’s just one step. There are 3 different formulas that helps 3 different nail conditions. 1.) helps maintain healthy nails, 2.) helps weak, splitting nails, 3.) helps dry, hard nails.

I use Formula 2 because my nails are really weak and peel easily when they grow a certain length. I don’t have trouble getting my nails to grow but they have always been weak, I assume from all the years of wearing acrylics for most of my teens. I usually use Nail Defense by Orly and I love it and have been using it for years but you need to keep using it for the rest of your life. The difference is that Nailtiques is a protein full of amino acids, calcium and such to bond the nail layers together and help protect the nail to help the nail grow. Orly Nail Defense is more like a top coat that may or may not have all the goodness of Nailtiques (I wouldn’t know since the writing on the bottle is teeny tiny) and you need to keep it applied to see results because once you take off nail Defense the nails go back to being what they were.

Company Description: “Nails that are soft, peeling, split or just will not grow will see marked improvement when treated with Formula 2. This formula consists of a unique blend of protein and conditioners. The protein immediately acts to help bond nails that are splitting or peeling. Formula 2 also helps to strengthen the nail resulting in long, strong and healthy nails.”

Ingredients

So here is what I have to say about this particular product: So far, it is amazing! I’ve been using this for one week  and a few days and I see a difference in my nails. They are definitely stronger and they don’t bend. Because they don’t bend or peel my nails have grown pretty fast within that week. I definitely feel something happening to my nails when I apply the product. It feels like my nails warm up when I apply it. So something is happening there!

You apply a thin coat to the nails every day(like a base coat) for one week, then you remove it after 7 days and repeat.  The formula is really thin so as you apply more coats the nail and the coats aren’t super thick, which means the coats don’t peel. This can be used with or without polish, although it is suggested that the initial week of use you use this alone. The sales associate told me, and was very adamant, that this is only to be applied ONCE a day. She said she applied it twice in one day and her nails started burning. I can see that happening since my nails warm up a bit with just one coat. It’s not an uncomfortable feeling but it’s there. One thing that bothers me with this is product, there is Tosylamide Formaldehyde Resin. Researching on numerous websites they say it’s not toxic because “the chemical process used to make this resin completely changes the structure of Formaldehyde so that it is present in very minimal concentrations”. I am still bothered by this but I will still use this until I find something more natural. Can’t win them all I guess.

After taking the coats off after my initial week my nails didn’t bend and didn’t feel weak. I am super excited about this product and I can’t wait to see my nails a month from now(given I don’t get lazy and start slacking).

What is your nail care routine? Are your nails weak, dry or are they just fine? Please share your thoughts! 🙂

My grade for Nailtiques Formula 2:  A

Pros: Stronger, Healthy Nails Thin Formula No peeling of the coats applied

Cons: Not natural

Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge Calypso Coral

The Pot Rouge is made to be used as a cream blush and/or a lip color. It’s a really nice multitasking product, great for traveling because it is super compact thus doesn’t take up a lot of space or if you don’t want to pack a lot of makeup products.  The compact also comes with the convenience of a mirror if you need one in a pinch. The Formula is really light, creamy and packs a punch. Very little is needed to get great color. The product leaves the skin dewy and glowing like with most cream blushes. This worked really well with my oily skin also. I didn’t have issues with this making my skin oily and it comes in 10 different shades. I really wish they had more of a variety of shades but Bobbi Brown has like 5 more than Mac.

Calypso Coral is a beautiful shade of coral, perfect for spring and summer. If you’re like me you would wear this all year round if you wanted. The color isn’t super bright when applied lightly and it can be very subtle. I can see this working on every skin color. It’s beautiful on tanned or brown skin. It gives a nice flush of color to the cheeks that’s very natural. When I tried it on my face seemed to brighten up. I love that in a product! I didn’t notice much fading throughout the wear time. If you build it enough it should wear for, on average, 4 hours depending on your skin type. If you set it with a powder then it will last much longer but you take away some of the glow look.

I think this one is a must have if you love cream blush and if you love corals.

Cream blush tip: If you want to tone down the glow or the shine of a cream blush, if you’re looking to make your blush last for a long period of time or if you want a more vibrant cheek, apply a powder blush over the cream that’s complementary.

What is your favorite Blush? Cream or Powder.
