Lush Ocean Salt Face and Body Scrub

image

image

First Opened

This is Ocean Salt from Lush Cosmetics. This is my go to face and body scrub. It’s a salt scrub(obviously) but it’s not super abrasive. I use this on every part of my body from head to toe and it leaves the skin so soft and smooth. I tend to like salt scrubs over sugar scrubs because sugar scrubs tend to be really greasy/oily and leaves a residue on the skin and in the tub, not so good when taking a shower. This leaves no residue. And I find with salt scrubs, they dissolve really quickly once in contact with water. This is pretty gentle on the face for a salt scrub if you mix the product well. When you first open the product you can see from the picture that the salt crystals sit on the top. You mix it together and you get a much creamier texture with good scrubbing action. Although it’s not super abrasive, you do need to use gentle motions. Don’t just scrub at your face or you could scratch your skin.

This works really well for acne prone and dull skin. I like to use this when I start getting break outs and when my skin starts looking dull and lifeless. This seems to bring back some life to my skin, leaving me with a bit of a glow. With the salt and the lime juice you get a really nice, natural exfoliation. The coconut and lime oils bring some balance to the skin as to not strip the skin of all it’s natural oils. So it’s not drying at all but you’re not oily either. AND the added bonus is the vodka infusion! 🙂 So it smells lovely…if you like the smell of a margarita(yes I know margarita is Tequila). However you won’t be walking around like an alcoholic but It really does have a pleasant scent, in my opinion. I don’t like that there are parabens in the product but at least they are last on the list. What are ya gonna do? I love this product!

I give this product an A. I would give it an A+ but I took off a point because it’s pretty pricy. They come in two sizes. Small and large. And they are recyclable. Bring back 5 pots and you get a free fresh face mask!

Lush Grease Lightning

Company Description: “We’re often too upset over their blemishes to stop and consider what they are; a clogged pore that has become inflamed because of built up bacteria. Let’s take a deep breath together. There you go. Now apply Grease Lightning, our super effective, spot-zapping face gel. The antibacterial combination of thyme, tea tree and rosemary infusion dries invisibly as it goes to work shrinking your mini volcanoes. Our herbal infusion conditions the skin, while grape juice cleanses and keeps spots free of dirt. See? Not so scary after all.”

Product: This is an oil free gel that’s intended to be a spot treatment for pimples. It is for oily skin beauties but I can’t see why dry skin lovelies can’t use this as well. The aloe vera has moisturizing effects and when I use this my skin isn’t completely dried out. The sales associates at Lush rave about this all the time and they swear by it. I don’t actually swear by this as a spot treatment. I think it helps with time, like most skin care products but I don’t think it’s a miracle healer. I had a horrendous, painful pimple on my chin last week and I put this on for a few days. This didn’t make it go away any faster but it did soothe the pain a bit. I think because of the tea tree. So it’s definitely more soothing than it is a zit zapper in my opinion. I have better spot treatments to make the pimple go away faster BUT one thing I’ve noticed and love about this product is that is helps fade the scars that acne can leave behind with the help of aloe vera, witch hazel and grape juice (which is high in vitamin C which is a natural exfoliator). Whether you pick at it or not, the aftermath of a pimple is usually discoloration where the pimple was and if I do get the urge and start squeezing and picking I put this on and it heals it. It is not a fade gel whatsoever but I don’t notice a super dark mark when I use this. I don’t notice this working on older scars but it might. I just know this does help with fresh scarring.  I also like this under my Cosmetic Warrior Fresh Face Mask. I put this all over my face first then apply my mask. Cosmetic Warrior alone is infused with tea tree to help get rid of acne and this adds extra boost, so I do see a bit of a difference in that my skin is more calm and the breakouts dry up a bit faster.

Packaging: Housed in a small and compact bottle this stores really well in the cabinet, drawer or shelf. It is very travel friendly and I haven’t had a problem with spillage.

Price: $12.95 for 1.5oz. This is my second bottle. The first lasted well over a year but of course the longer the product is sitting around the less effective it can be. I think this is a reasonable price considering you don’t use much with application.

Final Grade: A

Lush Cosmetic Warrior Fresh Face Mask

Lush fresh face mask

Ingredients

Lush sells nine different fresh face masks suited for different skin types and focusing on different skin issues from congested skin, dull skin, dry skin, oily skin etc. Made from fresh, natural ingredients such as eggs, honey, garlic, papaya, essential oils just to name a few. It sounds like the makings of a nice salad. Lush is known for using natural ingredients in their products that are handmade. These masks are so fresh, you have to keep these refrigerated and they last for about 3 weeks. Which means there’s no preservatives in these babies! Because they must stay refrigerated they can only be bought in stores. They are sold for 6.95 and the pots can be recycled; every 5 pots you bring back you get a free mask!

Lush certainly prepared this fresh face mask for war! This is hands down my favorite mask by Lush. When I see my skin is starting to breakout, I get some Cosmetic Warrior ready for combat. Suited specifically for problematic, blemish prone skin, this product works wonders to treat and clear your skin. If you suffer from oily skin this mask sucks up the oil leaving your skin squeaky clean but not dried out. You can use it all over the face or as a spot treatment for that one pesky pimple that won’t go away. The key ingredients in this mask are tea tree oil and garlic, which are a natural antiseptics that kills bacteria. The mask also contains honey to soothe the skin and eggs  to cleanse the skin. Because the mask is cold it also tightens the pores, firming the skin a bit. You can use this daily or you can use it a couple times a week. I like using it daily and within a week my breakouts are usually gone. I continue to use it to help maintain a healthy face.

Because of the garlic and tea tree oil the smell can be overpowering and stinks to some. I didn’t have a problem with the smell but I can see how some may can not tolerate the smell. My recommendation for that would be to breathe through your mouth while it’s on. Or if you absolute can not stand the smell all over your face, try it as a spot treatment. I think the results are worth enduring the smell for about 5-10 minutes. I owe this product so much because this really did help get my skin under control when I was lost in the land of beauty consumerism. I was literally trying everything  I saw in stores with no results but this helped so much and I pray this never gets disconinued!!

Lush Angels on Bare Skin

Lush is known for using natural ingredients and making their products by hand. Lush has lots of interesting products. This is mostly why I love them! Other than the fact that they use natural ingredients(much more natural than OTC products) Lush seems to deviate from the norm. When you think of facial cleansers you think of bars and liquids. Where Lush does has a couple bar cleansers, most of their cleansers are called cleanser rolls. The cleanser rolls have like a putty consistency.

use less than this for a clean face!

Angels on Bare Skin looks like clay when you see it. Plenty of people are intruiged when they fisrst see this sitting in a tub on the sink. This cleanser is suitable for all skin types. With ingredients like lavender, ground almonds and rose oils this product works really well at not only cleansing the skin but also gently exfoliating and hydrating the skin. I do have oily skin but I love using this every morning. It doesnt add exra oil to my skin, on the contrary it actually balances me out and I’m not left with an oily residue on my face.  I use Lush Fresh Farmacy cleanser (reviewed here)at night, which removes every trace of oil, and I use Angels in the morning to help rehydrate my skin. It feels rough when dry but once you add water the cleanser softens. You can see the crushed almonds in the cleanser and it looks like an herbal, earthy product. The light smell of lavander makes the product relaxing and enticing. I also love that the tub the cleanser comes in can be reused.

Like all of Lush’s cleansers, Angels is bought by the weight, which I think is brilliant. You pay what you can afford. You can just go in the store and ask for a $7 tub or a $20 tub. The product does last a long time, depending on how much you buy, becasue you are using a small amount with each use.

How to use this: Take a small, pea sized amount and add water. When mixed with the water it creates a paste. Gently rub the paste over your face to clean and exfoliate the skin, rinse clean and feel the softness.

Quick Review:

Product: 5/5- This is an excellent every day cleanser and it’s prefect for any skin type. It cleanses, soothes and exfoliates the skin, leaving your skin feeling soft and looking bright.

Packaging: 4/5- The Cleanser comes in a plastic tub that can be reused. The tub is pretty bulky so it takes up some space however it is travel friendly. When I travel with it there is no spill or mess.

Price: 4/5- Online The price is $10.95 for 3.5oz. When I buy in store, I don’t usually go by the oz because I just ask the associate for a certain dollar amount. The big difference buying online is that you can’t specify the dollar amount you want or the ounces you want. The pice is set online so I recommend buying in store.

Lush Catastrophe Cosmetic Fresh Face Mask

Lush sells nine different fresh face masks that are suited for different skin types and focusing on different skin issues from congested skin, dull skin, dry skin, oily skin etc. Made from fresh, natural ingredients such as eggs, blueberries, honey, garlic, papaya and essential oils just to name a few, the fresh face masks are a natural way to heal and maintain healthy skin. It sounds like the makings of a nice salad, doesn’t it? These are so fresh, you have to keep these refrigerated and they last for about 3 weeks. Which means there’s no preservatives in these babies! Because they must stay refrigerated they can only be bought in stores. They are sold for 6.95 and the pots can be recycled; every 5 pots you bring back you get a free mask!

Catastrophe Cosmetic fresh face mask is suitable for all skin types. The main ingredients are fresh blueberries(anti-inflammatory, high in Vitamin C) Calamine Powder (calming, sucks up oil) sweet almond oil(hydrate) and rose flower extract(to nourish and balance skin). You can actually see the blueberries mashed up in the mask. They create a slight scrubbing effect to help exfoliate the skin lightly. Blueberries which are high in vitamin c, helps brighten the skin.  Along with the calamine the mask also helps calm the skin if you have or feel a pimple coming. The scent of the mask is very soft, light and sweet. This mask is used to help nourish and maintain healthy skin. I think it’s good at balancing the skin because the calamine helps control the oil while the sweet almond oil has some hydration benefits.

I like this mask as a relaxing end to a day. I like to sit with this on for about 10 minutes with my eyes closed to wind down.  If I feel some tightness to my skin because of dryness I like to put this on to give a little hydration.  Because the mask is cold it also helps close the pores after a hot shower.

I don’t LOVE this mask and it’s not my favorite but it is a nice a mask to brighten, tone and give a little hydration to the skin. It all depends on what your particular skin is issue is. This mask is to keep your skin looking good!

Lush Sacred Truth

This is a fresh face mask by Lush. The Sacred Truth fresh face mask is ideal for normal to dry skin. The active ingredients include papaya(enzyme that gently exfoliates and stimulate the skin, brightening the skin) yogurt(soothes and moisturizes), eggs, honey(antiseptic), shea butter and coconut oil(moisturizers), green tea extract. The smell isn’t strong in my opinion. It’s very herbal smelling, which I assume is the ginseng. I can smell the lavender and a bit of the honey.
I like to use these masks because they are cool, which can be relaxing and tighten pore(heat and steam opens pores) and the essential oils can have a calming effect on your mood as well as your skin. These are great on hot days!

I found this mask to be pretty moisturizing and the mask left my skin really smooth and soft. Excellent for those who have mature skin. I would assume this would also be great for those with sensitive skin and rosacea also because of the soothing ingredients of yogurt, lavender oil and evening primrose oil. Because it is hydrating this mask can be used daily.

I liked this mask because I did notice a little brightening after use and it did hydrate my skin when I did suffer patches of dryness around my mouth but my skin is predominately oily so sometimes I felt that my skin was more oily than usual. So I wouldn’t recommend this for oily skin types, unless you’re not moisturizing at night before bed. (Those with oily skin should moisturize in some way so your skin won’t overproduce oil to compensate for that lack of moisture.) I would definitely recommend this for those who suffer from dry skin or has dry patches occasionally.

Lush Fresh Farmacy

This is a facial cleanser from Lush that is suited for oily, troubled skin. It’s reminiscent of a bar of soap. Of course we all should know by now that washing the face with soap is a huge no-no. It’s pink in color because of the calamine. To me the scent isn’t strong but you can smell the calamine and hints of lavender. The active ingredients are calamine and lavender( to soothe and calm the skin and breakouts) and tea tree oil(antiseptic). Coconut oil helps with keeping the skin soft and balanced.

This is my holy grail cleanser and I love everything about it. I love that it is natural ingredients. My personal test for natural ingredients is that if I can pronounce the names of the ingredients it’s good. If I can’t pronounce it, or if it sounds atrifical or scientific, then it usually is. But I digress. You can get a chunk cut as big or small as you’d like. It lasts for a while if stored properly, kept cool and dry. I keep mine in a travel soap dish I got from Target. I also love it as a spot treatment. Because of the calamine and the tea tree oil, I dab this on a pimple and leave it on overnight. In the morning the pimple is gone or at the very least gone down and a lot less painful.
In my experience, It can dry you out if used twice a day because it is for oily skin and it does an excellent job at sucking up the oil on the face. I use this once a day, preferably at night so I can moisturize. In the morning I use a cleanser suited for normal skin.

I definitely recommend this cleanser because this is the only thing that works to keep my skin from going haywire. The price point Can be a little pricey because you’re paying by the ounce but you can ask for a 7 dollar chunk if you want or a 20 dollar chunk. You don’t have to buy what they pre cut. As I said depending on how you care for it and the size, it can last for a good two months.
So get a sample, or buy a bar and start healing your skin!!
