Armani Maestro Foundation 10

“Get a no makeup feel while achieving foundation coverage that locks into place. Inspired by the thinnest fabric in the world, super organza, Maestro Fusion makeup is a waterless suspension of volatile oils and pigments to allow ultimate comfort and weightless coverage. Featuring an ultra-thin texture and oil-pigment suspension that supports perfecting the complexion, this makeup hydrates the skin while adapting to the skin’s texture and tone.”

I’m not one to give into the hype of beauty products. I’m usually loyal to a brand or product that I love. But I’ve been on the hunt for a really good foundation that gives good coverage, looks natural and feels good on the skin. I got a sample of this at Nordstrom and I instantly fell in love. It goes on like a dream!
The foundation is so light and silky, I forget I’m wearing anything and the coverage is buildable from sheer to medium. It dries semi- matte and i don’t need to use powder for a nice natural, look.
I applied this with my fingers because i wanted it to melt into my skin. I find when using a brush for a lot of foundations either moves the product around too much, not giving an even coverage and I waste product because the brush or sponge sucks up some of the foundation.
I wore this for 6-7 hours without any fading or oxidizing. And within that time, my skin wasn’t oily and still looked fresh.
And i couldn’t believe the shade was perfect, 10; not too red or orange. A lot of these prestigious foundations can’t get the colors right for dark skinned beauties but it works for me.

I can’t say enough good stuffabout this foundation. It’s expensive, @ $62 but i only plan on using this when i go out, not everyday wear, so it should last a while.

Bottomline, go try this!

Home/Personal Makeup Kit

Weather you wear makeup everyday, on special occasions, or if you’re not really a fan of makeup or don’t know how to use it, this list gives a nice basic idea of what you should have stashed away. You never know when you’ll need to get all dolled up for a day, or night, out. Here’s s few essentials you should have in your home drawers, cabinets etc. It doesn’t need to be expensive but since it’s going on your face it should be a good quality. I’m happy to see a lot of the drug store brands like Maybelline, Wet n Wild, L’Oreal etc are stepping up their makeup game! Honestly the brand doesn’t matter as long as you know what you’re doing!

Concealer-Think of it as an instant eye lift and brightener.  Used to brighten any darkness around the eyes, eye bags, and any skin discoloration. If you have great skin with just a few dark spots, redness, and/or darkness around the eyes, just use a concealer that matches your skin, add powder and you’re good to go, skipping the foundation. To highlight the skin or brighten a specific area like under the eyes or even the cheekbones, get a concealer 1 to 2 shades darker than your skin tone and get to highlighting!

Foundation  Used to even out the skin, covering skin discolorations, acne, acne scarring and the like, you should have a good foundation that’s good for your skin type. For oily/combo skin use a cream or powder foundation(you can use a liquid but make sure it’s oil free, stay away from light reflecting foundations and use a mattefying cream or powder). For dry skin use a liquid. For mature skin use a self setting, or anti-aging  foundation( stay away from powders since they tend to settle in the lines.)
Powder Used in conjunction with your foundation to set it so it doesn’t melt off mid day, powder is pretty essential especially if you have oily skin. Powder can help suck up excess oil on the skin. There is a wide range of powders on the market. There are pressed powders, which usually are blot powders, and loose powders that are usually finely milled into a dust like consistency.  There are shimmer powders that give an iridescence to the skin, there are matte powders. Those with mature skin should skip powders altogether because they can settle into fine lines and look cakey on the skin.

Eye Shadow– Keep a few different shades on hand to glam up your look. At least 4 basic colors like brown, gold, ivory and black looks good on just about everyone and it’s good to have a variety of shimmer eye shadows and matte eye shadows.   OR Just opt for a pre-made palette from Urban Decay or Mac with a nice range of color options.

Mascara used to add volume and/or length to your lashes, whether you have long lashes or not. I used to think because my lashes are long and pretty thick, I didn’t need mascara. But mascara can make or break your look. Your eyes and overall look could be flawless and beautiful but if you skip mascara your look will look half-assed.

Blush will bring color back to your face. If you use foundation, the goal is to have a blank canvas so it’s taking away some of your natural color or your skin just might be pale in general,  no matter what your skin color is. There are cream blushes which I love because they make the skin look more natural, giving a more natural glow to the skin. Then there’s powder blush which is also great but it’s easy to add too much which can look too powdery or unnatural. I love both types and its great to brighten the skin as well. What ever texture you decide peachy blushes usually look good on everyone. Corals and pinks are also good. They don’t need to be super bright to look good.

Lipstick, Gloss and/or lip pencil also adds a finishing touch to a look. Gloss or lipstick brings it all together. Even if you opt for a sheer, colorless gloss it just looks good and gloss makes your lips looks fuller too. Again, peachy or pinky tones look more natural and are not so over the top. Lipstick is more pigmented and instantly brings attention to your lips and last longer on your lips. I recommend having one red lipstick or gloss for that special occasion.  Lip pencils are good to keep your lip color from bleeding and good to help it last. Not a lipstick fan, fill in your lips with a pencil, add some clear gloss and you’re good to go.

Eyeliner is good to have but I don’t think it’s always necessary. It really depends on who you are and what your makeup type is. If you’re not into makeup, especially eye makeup, eyeliner is look because it adds some depth and detail to your eyes. If one doesn’t wear eyeshadow, mascara and/or eyeliner is perfect.

Chanel Mat Lumiere Foundation in Cedar

Company Description:

Perfect for combination skin with a tendency to shine, this oil-free formula delivers a soft, natural matte finish with maximum staying power. Medium coverage looks impeccable and shine-free for up to 12 hours.

Product: Chanel Mat Lumiere Foundation is magical. I feel like it transforms the entire face. When I got a sample of this from the counter I instantly fell in love with this; this rarely happens. The foundation covers beautifully and it’s a great match for me. This is absolutely perfect for oily skin. It gives medium coverage but you can spray your brush or sponge with water to spread and sheer the product out more. It has SPF 15 in it but if you’re wearing this during the day and burn easy I would put a primer or moisturizer with SPF under the foundation. The product is light and blends well into the skin leaving a flawless face. This really is a luxury product. Compared to other brands this is the best foundation I have tried and I’ve tried a lot of different foundations! I only use this for special occasions like going out to a party, out on a date or anywhere I want to look and feel flawless. This is a fabulous special occasion foundation.

Though not waterproof this does last a long time on my oily skin. I can’t vouch for the ‘shine free up to 12 hours’ claim but I can wear this for at least 8 hours and it won’t fade much. It fades a bit and I may need to blot oil from my skin a couple times throughout wear time but I can see a difference when compared to my other foundations. If I happen to rub my face the product isn’t all over my hands but it can transfer from the face to your clothes though. Most importantly when I wear Laura Mercier primer under this, my skin does not break out and I’m not super oily mid wear!

Packaging: The bottle has a pump for controlled dispensing of the product. The bottle is made of a heavy glass making it difficult to break and this is spill proof making it travel friendly. I only wish you could open the bottle to get every bit of product out.

Price: For $54 for 1oz of product this is definitely expensive and a big splurge. It’s a luxury brand. But you don’t need a lot of product, usually one pump will cover my entire face. At the most 1 1/2 pumps and if you only wear this for special occasions or special outings this will last you well over a year. So I would say go to the Chanel Counter and get a sample. I love this!

Laura Mercier Oil Free Primer

Have you ever left the house to go someplace (work, a night out dancing, drinks with the girls etc.) with fresh makeup, then notice by the middle of the day or evening that those dark or red spots that you covered up earlier are starting to peak through? Yes, the foundation you use could be to blame but more than likely the foundation is fading because there’s nothing for the foundation to hold on to. Foundation primer is important to help create an even canvas for the foundation and to keep your makeup from melting off mid-day.

Laura Mercier Oil Free Foundation Primer is suitable for oily skin. It’s water based so it is light and sinks right into the skin leaving the skin completely matte without any shine. When I wear this primer my skin doesn’t breakout. It’s doesn’t feel heavy or greasy and it feels good on the skin. When you wear foundation all day, some people (not all) tend to breakout either because of the foundation formula or because you have nothing between your skin and your foundation. Like most products you put on your face and body, foundation is being absorbed into the skin. Primer helps protect the skin by creating a barrier so the foundation doesn’t sit on the skin or in the pores.

There are arguments for and against foundation primers. Some believe it’s a gimmick and it’s not needed at all, others believe it’s necessary. I’m on the fence on whether it’s really needed or not and there are some primers I have tried that didn’t do anything but weigh on my skin and/or break me out. However, this primer feels like it’s doing something! Whether or not it’s really protecting my skin I LOVE the way my foundation looks on top of this primer. My skin looks even and flawless. I can use my Chanel Mat Lumier or my MAC Face and Body and I’ll love what I see. I see a major difference when compared to moisturizers as far as how my foundation looks and how long it lasts. Maybe because moisturizers are used to moisturize the skin and it slides about the face throughout the day. My oily skin doesn’t feel or look super shiny after wearing this primer for a few hours (just a bit of shine-hey, I didn’t say it’s a miracle worker).

The price is pretty expensive, $30 at Sephora and Macy’s and Nordstroms counters for 1.7 fl.oz, it is a splurge. But when compared to Makeup Forever Primers you only get 1.01 oz. for $32. So here’s my tip: I only use this primer for the evening, special occasions or when I know I need my makeup to last longer than usual. Moisturizers I use daily because of the SPF and because I’m only going to work so it’s ok if my makeup starts to fade a bit by 1pm. My day is almost over by that time anyhow. One tube lasts me for at least 2 months at this rate. I only use 4 dots; on my forehead, cheeks and chin because a little goes a long way. Get a sample of this at Sephora or any counter before trying and let me know if you’re pleasantly surprised!

Final Ratings:

Product (texture, feel, wear time): 5 stars because it’s excellent all around. I use it religiously!

Packaging (ease of use) : 5 stars because you just squeeze it out. Simple enough!

Price: 4 stars because I love it and I feel it’s worth it but you really do have to use it sparingly.
