Phamexpo This weekend

This weekend is the Phamexpo(Professional Hair and Makeup Expo) in Los Angeles. The event is open to the public and super beneficial to pros and the beauty lover.  The launch of the expo was last year and it was really intimate and similar to IMATS with professional speakers within the industry, workshops and vendor deals on purchases. In fact it’s the same place where Imats is held and Phamexpo replaced the original Imats date before it moved to January. So We now have 3 makeup conventions, (that i know of)! How awesome is that?!  I assume since the buzz is getting around and this year will be a lot more people, which is good because as an artist or makeup lover it is important to support these expos so they keep coming back with awesome beauty deals and insightful information for pro and aspiring artists. Not so great because of the crowds but great to be around other artists  and like minded people who share your passion. Lets face it, not everyone understands the methods to our madness. The speakers and education they have to offer is enough to go even if you can’t buy anything.

Last year I meat a few other artists who has helped me get to where I am today. It’s amazing for networking, learning and to get products and learn about what’s new.  I highly recommend this event if you are in the Los Angeles area, aspiring artist, makeup lover. It’s all good!

I will be in this workshop taught by the amazing Donna Mee on sunday. I am currently an Empire Student and TRUST when I say you want to hear what she has to say. She’s absolutely amazing!

Come out and support the industry we love and appreciate! What are you waiting for?!?! 😛

Are you going to the Phamexpo this year?

Well Hello Stranger!

Hello beautiful people. I have been away from my beloved blog for far too long. I started working again, back from summer vacation, so I have just been dead to the world when I get home! I have been on a few makeup jobs within the last month so that’s been the highlight and excitement in my life. I did the Raw Artist show in Hollywood, which was super fun and as a result of that I got a couple calls to do makeup for a couple photo shoots and I also did a bridal fashion show last weekend. So I’ve been a bit busy to say the least, but in a good way. So it’s good to be back writing and sharing makeup stuff with you all and also reading posts from others.

Do tell, what have you been up to and how have you been?! Hope you are all well.

I thought i’d share a few photos of some of my work from the show and also ask for you all to take a minute to register and vote for me for the raw artist makeup artist of the year! I know what you’re thinking; “Man, I need to register?” Yes you do because not only will you be doing me a solid but you might be enticed to be a Raw featured artist! 😉 So go to the link below, resister your name and please vote.

Raw Artist Show 2013

Exciting News!!!

Last year I went to an event showcasing work from up and coming artists in art, fashion, hair, makeup, photography, music, film and performing art called Raw. It’s an independent organization that supports artists and gives them a platform to showcase their work. It’s a great opportunity to network, get exposure, see some great acts and arts and most importantly to get inspired. Because I attended this even last year I was able to network with other artists and work with a couple photographers and other makeup artists. So just by being there doing nothing except talking with others about their passions and enjoying a fabulous show, I was able to get further ahead in my career path.

I am extremely happy and honored to announce that I have been chosen to showcase my work for the next RAW event, September 5, 2013. I will work with a hair team and create something fabulous that will be featured on a runways for a designer that will also be showcased. It feels so unreal to me. I have never done runway makeup though I have always wanted to and It’s mind blowing that I get a fabulous opportunity like this.

I would really appreciate the support! People like you make this event possible and make aspiring artists dreams come true. If you live in the Los Angeles area, or surrounding area, please show your support to a great organization and purchase a ticket and attend the event. You won’t be disappointed! Share with other artists, family, friends or anyone who enjoys the arts. Please check out and buy a ticket through my link to support me. I would really appreciate it.

I would really encourage any artist seeking exposure and fun; hair, makeup, performing arts, art, film etc to check into showcasing. They have shows worldwide. It is extremely beneficial and it definitely wouldn’t hurt to check it out and apply.

Makeup Forever Flash Color Launch- New Shades(plus an exclusive sneak peak)

The New Additions to the Flash Color Collection

Last night Makeup Forever launched their new Flash Color Pro Palette with new individual shades. The palette is nice with some nice pastel shades. I can see this being great as a lip and cheek palette as well as some body art. I don’t own the original flash palette but it has been on my wishlist for quite some time for my kit. Playing with the palette, old and new, these cream colors are so vibrant and so smooth. I really liked the feel of these. They were not sticky or tacky and they weren’t dry.I can see these used on photo shoots or for fashion shows because they are fabulous for multi-tasking. These may be used anywhere on the face and body. There are exceptions as to what may be used on eyes(for example, red because it can stain) but I have seen artists use them anyways. Advice is to use a primer and don’t get them in your eyes(i.e. the lash lines). You can buy the shades in pots, in a stick, as refills to customize and pop them in a palette, or buy the 2 pre-made palettes. There are quite a few new shades added to the flash color collection. All of them so lovely!

Here are a few pictures of the new shades and swatches from the individual pots I took at the event. I will do a review for the shades I got once I play around with them.

***Now for an exclusive (well not really but I was pretty excited about it and I didn’t know about this until last night): I got to play around and get some pictures(not great pictures) of the new Artisan brush Collection from Makeup Forever! I am super excited about these babies coming out in September because I am a huge fan of the brand but has always been disappointed in their selection of brushes. Not anymore! There are 76 ( YES 76) new brushes coming out In September 2013 at Sephora and Makeup Forever Boutiques and they are 5 years in the making. They are SO SOFT and they look so professional. There are a nice variety of face, eye, lip and artistic brushes and the design is look is sleek and beautiful. I love that the end of the each brush is designed so it may be used as a spatula AND to apply your false lashes. Brilliant!!!! The look and feel of these are just different-Luxurious-  and I can’t wait for these to come out!

Here are some photos, not great but you get the point (I really should start taking my real camera to these events). I obviously couldn’t get close up pictures of all 76 brushes but I got close ups of a few. Enjoy!!

Check out my instagram or Facebook page for more photos!!

Mac Hey Sailor Unveiling Party

Last night I went to the launch party for the new Summer collection, Hey Sailor! I had such a great time! As usual, there was entertainment, cocktails, finger foods and makeovers. The launch party gives a preview of the summer collection before it’s made public. THIS COLLECTION HITS STORES IN THE U.S. MAY 24, 2012. This is my third summer launch party and they are great!

I must say I wasn’t really excited about this launch because it just looked kind of boring to me, when compared to the last two summer collections from Mac. The packaging is cute but the colors just seemed a bit blah to me. The shades lack the bright colors associated with summer. AND I was a bit annoyed because Mac already released a nautical collection in the past(Naughty Nautical) though it wasn’t a summer collection. But I digress. For me the big hits were the eyeshadows and the lip glosses. I usually go crazy over the powder blushes and highlight powders for summer but this year they were lacking creativity and that wow factor. They just didn’t stand out to me. To each their own!

I didn’t get product pictures of the bronzers, bronzing oils and lip tints. Sorry. I got a little overwhelmed and honestly I didn’t have much interest in these!

I think the eyeshadows, lipsticks and lipglosses will be big hits this year. I’m so sad about the blushes!

Anyhow, here are pictures! I will test my goodies out and do looks and show more individual pictures in upcoming posts!

What do you think? Are you buying anyting or are you passing?

Mac Hey Sailor Summer Collection

Bronzing Powders, Bronzing Oils, Lip Tints

Mac Feeling Fresh

Mac Jaunty Eyeshadow

Mac Crystal Avalanche

Mac Barefoot Eyeshadow

L-R Nautical Navy, Barefoot, Jaunty, Crystal Avalanche, Feeling Fresh

L-R Nautical Navy, Barefoot, Jaunty, Crystal Avalanche, Feeling Fresh

Crystal Avalanche is a permanent shade(I really do hate when Mac throws in permanent shades with new shades). This color is a frosty white color which some bluish duochrome.
Barefoot is a gold color. I liked it but I didn’t LOVE it. When I really thought about it, this is easily dupable. It’s an exact match to Mac Old Gold Pigment which is a permanent Mac Pigment AND is being sold with this collection.
Jaunty is a nice, frosty Taupe color. A great lid color. I really liked this shade. This eyeshadow was really smooth too. I think this was one of my favorites, if not thee favorite for me.
Feeling Fresh is a bright shimmery green. This shade really jumped at me because its so bright and the texture is really smooth! At first glance I though this shade is similar to Urban Decay Absinthe from book of shadows 1, or Kush From Urban Decay loves NYC palette, but I think Feeling Fresh is a bit brighter and a little more pigmented.
Nautical Navy is a satin navy blue with some shimmer to it. It felt kind of matte when I was swatching it but it didn’t feel dry. It also wasn’t buttery smooth like Jaunty and Feeling Fresh either.

PowerPoint Eye Pencils:

Emerald Sea, Blue Stripe, Handforged

Handforged is a gold bronze color. It’s not too bronzy which I think is good because its good to add a nice golden bronze to any look. However, this is easily dupable I think. Nothing too special with this pencil.
Emerald Sea is a grassy green color. Nothing really special with this one either. I imagine this would look nice when worn but this shade falls flat to me. This color was really light and as I wore it it seemed to fade faster than the others.
Blue Stripe is a navy blue color that looks like it came give off hints of purple in different lighting. It’s really pretty and it didnt fade as easily as Emerald Sea.
*All three pencils are really smooth and soft, making it perfect for the waterline since they don’t tug and they apply really easy. They smudge and blend out really nicely also!

L-R Red Racer, Sail La Vie, To Catch a Sailor

Mac Salute Lipstick

Salute is a pale peachy nude color. It was really creamy and not drying. If layered right this could be a nice nude color but for me it’s too much work. I mostly like to put on my lipstick and go!
Sail La Vie is a reddish orange color. I immediately thought this looked like my Lady Danger Lipstick but once I wore it I realized this color has more orange and a hint of coral to it. Lady Danger is more red.
Red Racer is a just your basic red with a satain finish. This has been done before. It’s pretty and really creamy but…it’s been done so many times!
To Catch a Sailor is a icy, frosted tan color

L- R Send Me Sailing, Orange Tempera, Cute Loose, Blessedly Rich

Cut Loose is a milky white color.

Orange Tempera is definitely not an organge so the name is very misleading! This shade is a pink color. It looks pretty pale on me on it’s own but I really liked this layered on top of a lipstick, like a red or an orange.
Riviera Life is an orange gloss. It’s not pictured here but I will review that and use it in a look soon!
Blessedly Rich is a light, pinky bronze shade. I think this would look good on everyone. Very pretty.
Send Me Sailing is a red color with some shimmer. I think this is easily dupable.

Prolongwear Lip Pencils:

L-R Shore Leave, Saunter, Throw Me a Line

Throw Me a Line is a red color.
Shore Leave is a light pink color
Saunter is a  light beige color.

All three pencils are really smooth and they really do last all day. It took a lot of elbow grease to get the swatches off. I scrubbed at these like crazy for them to come off.

Highlight Powder:

Mac Crew High Light Powder

Crew comes together to make like a peachy gold highlighter. There are colors that are separated but it looks like it would be kind of hard to use a shade individually. The powder is really smooth, so smooth I feel like “fragile” should be written all over this. When first applied it comes off a bit ashy and pale on my skin but I guess once it sets on your skin by the natural oils, it tones down to a nice subtle glow. The more I wore it around, the more I liked it. However I didn’t love this highlight powder. It looked pretty once set but I didn’t feel like “OMG, I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE!” I just couldn’t justify buying this!

Powder Blush:

Mac Fleet Fast Powder Blush

Mac Launch Away! Powder Blush

Mac Fleet Fast

Mac Launch Away

Launch Away! is a pale pink color. This would look great on lighter skin tones. It looked really ashy on me.
Fleet Fast is a nice coral color with a bit of of golden sheen. This would show up on medium skin tones to light dark skintones and on darker skintones it could possibly be used as a highthighter. This is definitely one that needs to be tested before buying for those with darker skin. For Reference I am a NC 45 in Mac, 173 in Makeup Forever. Again I liked this and its pretty but I didn’t love this. I feel like I have seen this color before so I passed.

Pictures from the Raw:Natural Born Artist Event

Last night I went to the Raw event in Hollywood at the Key Club to support those in the industry and also to meet people and promote myself as a makeup artist. Raw is an independent organization that promotes up and coming artists, photographers, film makers and hair and makeup artists. It’s sponsored by the community and it’s really great exposure to sell yourself in whatever type of art you do. I had the opportunity and pleasure to see some raw talent in makeup, hair, fashion photography, and art. I met some really wonderful people and hopefully made some connections to work with some amazing people. I love being around people who help each other instead of looking at each other as competition or rivals. There was an art gallery where you can check out and buy some works in photography, painting, and drawing. The atmosphere was really inspiring, welcoming and really energetic. I loved being there and I would love to go to another Raw Event in the future.

Later in the night there was a fashion, hair and makeup show which I really enjoyed. I wish I had got more photos of the show but the lighting wouldn’t allow my camera phone to do so. There was some amazing hair and makeup jobs and fashion. I really had a great time and I realized that an artist’s craft is always developing. I have a lot of practicing to do so I’m getting to it.

Here are some up close shots I got before the show started.

Here are some photos of the show, some I could get anyhow.
