Lush Grease Lightning

image

image

Company Description: “We’re often too upset over their blemishes to stop and consider what they are; a clogged pore that has become inflamed because of built up bacteria. Let’s take a deep breath together. There you go. Now apply Grease Lightning, our super effective, spot-zapping face gel. The antibacterial combination of thyme, tea tree and rosemary infusion dries invisibly as it goes to work shrinking your mini volcanoes. Our herbal infusion conditions the skin, while grape juice cleanses and keeps spots free of dirt. See? Not so scary after all.”

Product: This is an oil free gel that’s intended to be a spot treatment for pimples. It is for oily skin beauties but I can’t see why dry skin lovelies can’t use this as well. The aloe vera has moisturizing effects and when I use this my skin isn’t completely dried out. The sales associates at Lush rave about this all the time and they swear by it. I don’t actually swear by this as a spot treatment. I think it helps with time, like most skin care products but I don’t think it’s a miracle healer. I had a horrendous, painful pimple on my chin last week and I put this on for a few days. This didn’t make it go away any faster but it did soothe the pain a bit. I think because of the tea tree. So it’s definitely more soothing than it is a zit zapper in my opinion. I have better spot treatments to make the pimple go away faster BUT one thing I’ve noticed and love about this product is that is helps fade the scars that acne can leave behind with the help of aloe vera, witch hazel and grape juice (which is high in vitamin C which is a natural exfoliator). Whether you pick at it or not, the aftermath of a pimple is usually discoloration where the pimple was and if I do get the urge and start squeezing and picking I put this on and it heals it. It is not a fade gel whatsoever but I don’t notice a super dark mark when I use this. I don’t notice this working on older scars but it might. I just know this does help with fresh scarring.  I also like this under my Cosmetic Warrior Fresh Face Mask. I put this all over my face first then apply my mask. Cosmetic Warrior alone is infused with tea tree to help get rid of acne and this adds extra boost, so I do see a bit of a difference in that my skin is more calm and the breakouts dry up a bit faster.

Packaging: Housed in a small and compact bottle this stores really well in the cabinet, drawer or shelf. It is very travel friendly and I haven’t had a problem with spillage.

Price: $12.95 for 1.5oz. This is my second bottle. The first lasted well over a year but of course the longer the product is sitting around the less effective it can be. I think this is a reasonable price considering you don’t use much with application.

Quick Look of the Day

Today I woke up to a beautiful Spring day in LA. The last couple days have been cloudly, windy, dreary, rainy and bipolar with sun coming out here and there, slightly warming things up and then going back in to cool things off.
So to celebrate a lovely day in LA I thought I’d do another colorful but subtle look. The colored liner is the main focus here! Love these guys, Makeup Forever Aqua Liners!! Review is coming very soon!! I am anticipating Mac’s new Spring collection, Hey Sailor, so again I used my Surf Baby Eyeshadows from last year. It’s nothing special or detailed because I only had about 15 minites of extra time to do eye makeup today. I usually don’t wear eye makeup to work because I just don’t have enough time. Sleep is more important! LOL 🙂

Anyway, Hope you like it!

April Favorites!

Here are some of my favorite things this month! I can’t believe this month is over already! However May brings a lot of interesting and exciting events on my calendar. Stay tuned to find out what those are!

Most, if not all, products are worn in some look I’ve previously posted so I didn’t do swatches here. If you’d like a review or have a question about a product listed leave me a comment.
Have a great day!

Foundation

Chanel Perfection Lumiere reviewed here: I fell in love with the sample I got from Macys and I love this for special occasions. It gives a flawless look!

Lip Gloss

Nars Wonder Lipgloss reviewed here:Perfect for the spring and summer seasons. It’s a gorgeous shade that’s not too sublte or too bold.

Lipstick
image

Mac Marquise D’ Lipstick was released with the Wonder Woman collection last year but I fell in love with this lipstick again. It’s a pinky nude color with some shimmer. Great neutral shade for everyone.

Blush
image

Illamasqua Lover: A perfect peach color that brightens the skin; it acts as a blush and a subtle, non shimmery highlight on my skin. I LOVE this shade.

Highlighter

Mac Supurb MSF reviewed here.

Nars Albatross Highlighter looks stark white in the pan but it gives Gorgeous golden shimmer, perfect for every shade! Love this!

Eye Liner
image

Makeup Forever Aqua Black Cream Liner is black, warerproof, and goes over the eyes super smoothly. Perfect for the waterline since it won’t fade or wash away. You can’t ask for a better liner.

(L-R)Nubile, Beach Blonde, Saffron

Eye Shadows

Mac Beach Blonde, Mac Saffron: Released with Mac to the Beach last summer I thought I’d pull these babies out since it’s officially Spring.  Mac Nubile Paint Pot, I like to use this on it’s own with a darker brown or bronze in the crease to contour the eye. It’s a great nude color with a slight sheen to it.

Movie

American Reuinion: I LOVED the original American Pie movie and the franchise slowly went downhill after(I liked the second but of course it wasn’t as great as the first). Reunion delivered the wrongness and the raunciness that I loved from the first and the ‘Stifmeister’ was on point! Hilarious!

What were some of your favorites this April?

Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy Luxury Baths

Stress Relief Bath

image

Lavender Chamomile Sleep Bath

Bath and Body Works has three different types of armoatherapy luxury bubble baths. There are 2 Sleep Baths (Lavender Chamomile and Lavender Vanilla) to help promote sleep and one Sleep Bath to help with stress relief(Eucalyptus Spearmint).

Company Descriptions:

Eucalyptus Spearmint Stress Relief Bath-“Relax and think clearly. Eucalyptus Essential Oil clears the mind while Spearmint Essential Oil uplifts to help improve concentration. The perfect daily ritual, this ultra-luxurious, ultra-pampering bath moisturizes and nourishes skin. Our formula contains Aloe to nourish and rejuvenate skin.”

Lavender Chamomile Sleep Bath- “Sleep Well. Lavender and Chamomile Essential Oils soothe and calm to enhance sleep. The perfect bedtime ritual, this ultra-luxurious, ultra-pampering bath moisturizes and nourishes skin. Our formula contains Aloe to nourish and rejuvenate skin.”

Lavender Vanilla Sleep Bath- “Relax before sleep. Lavender Essential Oil and Vanilla Absolute help calm feelings of stress so you can sleep better. Product: The bubble bath is super creamy, it looks like milk, and smells so good! Just smelling this is enough to relax the senses and the body, but of course its much better when bathed in. I love this so much and I got so many people addicted to this. It truly is an amazing product! When soaking in this, the skin doesn’t get dry like with a lot of bubble baths. Your skin is left feeling soft and smooth after each bath. I love to lie back, soak and breathe in the essential oils.

I LOVE the stress relief bath after a long, hard day. The mix of essential oils really does help melt away the stress of the day. It’s a bit invigorating because if you know the smell of eucalyptus and/or spearmint you know it awakens the senses a bit, but at the same time this relaxes you. Great for one who has body aches and need to relax the muscles. And if mixed with Epsom Salt…HEAVEN! I love this after a tough workout too! This is probably my favorite bath..EVER! ❤

I also love the Sleep baths, the Lavender Chamomile in particular, because I feel it does relax and soothe the body and your mood. I can’t confirm nor deny if this really helps you sleep but I can confirm that this does relax a tense body and mood. So maybe it does aid in sleep. This one in particular makes the skin feel extra soft after a nice bath. Probably because of the chamomile.

This lasts a long time IF you don’t use it everyday. If you are like me and prefer baths over showers, I would use this only when necessary since it is therapeutic and use a regular bubble bath daily. That’s how I get it to last a while.

image

Packaging: The product is housed in tall glass jars, They are pretty bulky but they store well in the cabinet or on the counter top. Not really travel friendly because the glass isn’t thick so it could break.

Price: 16.50 for 15oz. It is a pretty penny and I’m sure you can find bubble bath way cheaper elsewhere, BUT is it infused with essential oils?  You do get a lot and you really only need a small amount to get good bubble action (I put too much in the first time I used this and I was literally attacked by bubbles). This lasts a long time IF you don’t use it everyday. I agree this is expensive but every now and then Bath and Body Works put these on sale for either buy 2 get 1 free or buy 2 get 2 free. Either of these are good deals for them, In fact they are on sale RIGHT NOW! And if you have a coupon code, added savings!

Makeup Forever Full Cover Concealer

image

Makeup Forever Full Cover Concealer Shade 14

image

Company Description: “An ultra long-lasting, matte finish, oil-free, waterproof, full coverage concealer. Full Cover is perfect for concealing the most extreme flaws, such as scars, severe skin damage, beauty spots, depigmentation or birthmarks. It can even hide tattoos. Waterproof and long-lasting, it holds even under extreme conditions thanks to its perfectly stable formula. It evens out the skin tone and camouflages imperfections for extended periods of time.”

Product: The concealer is really creamy and smooth. It is not heavy or thick but it does get a bit stiff when applying because it does dry pretty quickly. I believe that’s because the product is waterproof. Once this dries and sets it will not move until you take it off. If you dab this on and blend right away, it blends beautifully! I love Makeup Forever products because when they say something is waterproof, it usually is. Once applied it does not look cakey or dry. It looks very natural and gives full coverage. When I put this on this seems to wake me up…or at least it gives the ILLUSION that I’m awake although I feel like the walking dead. It’s used not only to conceal eye bags but also to brighten the complexion and the eye area. If your eyes are looking dark from tiredness or just from discoloration this helps a lot.

I really love this product! My Go to concealer used to be the Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer, which was a fantastic product that gave great coverage. Again it concealed and brightened the eye bags. When I used it all up I went to Sephora to buy during a friends and family sale. I tried the Makeup Forever concealer and I liked it a lot. But I was in love with the Bobbi Brown. What’s a girl to do? How does one choose?! What sold me was the fact that Makeup Forever is waterproof. Sorry Bobbi Brown! With summer coming and all, waterproof is ideal. (IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO READ A REVIEW ON THE BOBBI BROWN CONCEALER LEAVE A COMMENT AND I WILL DO SO!)  This lasts all day on me until I take it off. Even if my foundation fades I still have no eye bags! I’ve been wearing this in the most recent pictures here and here.

Packaging: A plastic squeeze tube that’s small and compact, making it perfect for storage and travel. The squeeze tube makes it great for getting the desired amount for application.

Price: $32 for 0.5oz of product. A good price considering this is waterproof so there is no need to reapply and you only need a tiny dot for each eye to get full coverage, so this will last a while depending on how often you use this.

Wonder In Natural Light

Company Description: “Serious shine and sexy color in sheer, semi-sheer and creamy formulas. Extremely wearable and versatile shades may be worn alone or over other lip formulas for added dimension. The portable tube and sponge wand make applying these beautiful glosses, in an array of shades, a snap.”

Product: This gloss is a sheer mandarin orange color with some golden shimmer. It looks great on all skin tones and it’s perfect for spring, summer and if you follow trends since orange lips are the trend this season. The color is really sheer, like most Lip Glosses by Nars, but it adds a nice tint of orange to the lips. It’s subtle so if you are not sure about wearing orange lip colors I think this would be a good starter product. Of course you can make it more bold by adding a liner or lipstick similar in color. The formula is really smooth and light. I love that Nars glosses are not sticky or thick even though I am not a fan of the scent, but I have learned to tolerate the smell some. I can wear this for about 5 hours without eating or drinking before the color is gone.

Packaging: Plastic tube with a doe foot sponge, easy storage and travel friendly.

Price: $24 for 0.28oz of product. If you’ve read my past Nars reviews you know I think Nars is a great brand but definitely over hyped and a bit over priced. It is considered a luxury brand so you’re gonna pay for luxury. If you’re a makeup addict you will love the brand and won’t be disappointed however if you’re just starting your makeup obsession, there are lots of cheaper alternatives that are just as good. I’m usually on the fence about the price of Nars products which is why I usually buy them when I have discount codes 😉

Season of the Prom

image

Prom season is here again and with it comes giddy teenagers, pretty dresses, fashonable shoes and fabulous hair and makeup!  Prom is one of the most important days for some teenagers.  A day of pampering is a girl’s ideal day no matter what age they are.   Teens spend the day getting their nails, hair and makeup done to make themselves look more beautiful than they are thus making them feel better about themselves. Whether going with a date or going with friends, prom is sure to be a fun, exciting night and quite possibly the start to many late nights of partying and dancing with friends. It’s the teens beginning of independence.

A teen’s makeup is what brings their look together.  They have this beautiful dress with cute shoes, hair is looking sharp and now the makeup must be flawless to make everything blend together. A few tips (and pictures I found doing a google search) for great makeup on prom night:

1.) Don’t wear too much! You ideally want to look pretty and glamorous but not overly made up. Pick a feature you want to play up and stick with that. Bold eyes is fine but be sure to keep the lips simple and neutral or vice versa.

2.) Neutral eye makeup is usually safe and works for everyone and goes with almost every dress. Brown, beige, gold, peach tones, white gold are all excellent choices for the eyes and easy to add a color to. Not everyone likes to wear colorful eyeshadow but one can add a colored eye liner to amp up the look a bit and bring out your eyes. The colored liner could match the detail in the dress to bring it all together.

Use a white or a bone( for darker skin) colored eyeliner to open small set eyes.

3.) Smokey eyes works great for any occasion. The brilliance of a Smokey eye is one can go as subtle or as dramatic as they’d like. It doesn’t always need to be dramatic. There are tons of palettes, with instructions, available (high end and drug store brands) that makes Smokey eyes easy to accomplish. Add a wash of black, or even a bronze eyeshadow over a base (eye primer or a blended out black eye kohl) blend the color out with a neutral eyeshadow that matches your skintone and add a highlight. Add eyeliner to the top and bottom lash lines, set with a dark shadow and add mascara. To add more drama, add some black eyeshadow to the crease and blend it out so there are no harsh lines.

4.) Not too sure about wearing eye makeup? Apply eyeliner to the top lashes and outer bottom lash lines for small eyes or rim the entire eye for bigger eye shapes and lots of mascara to fake it. And add some color to your lips if you desire.

5.) Get a flawless face with a foundation that gives the type of coverage you need; tinted moisturizer or a sheer cover foundation if you just need to even out the skin tone, medium to full coverage if you need to hide acne and/or acne scars. Don’t forget to powder.

6.) Prime to make it last. You will probably be out late, prom and after party, so prime your face and eyes before applying foundation and eyeshadow then the lips with a matching lipliner to ensure your look lasts all night. A makeup setting spray also helps.

Did you go to your high school prom? If so, what kind of dress did you wear and how did you wear your makeup?
If not, do you regret not going?
