Small Size…Obviously

Nailtiques is a nail care system that treats multiple nail problems with six specially formulated protein strengths. It’s not a system in that there are all these many steps and products you need to take to get healthy nails. There’s just one step. There are 3 different formulas that helps 3 different nail conditions. 1.) helps maintain healthy nails, 2.) helps weak, splitting nails, 3.) helps dry, hard nails.

I use Formula 2 because my nails are really weak and peel easily when they grow a certain length. I don’t have trouble getting my nails to grow but they have always been weak, I assume from all the years of wearing acrylics for most of my teens. I usually use Nail Defense by Orly and I love it and have been using it for years but you need to keep using it for the rest of your life. The difference is that Nailtiques is a protein full of amino acids, calcium and such to bond the nail layers together and help protect the nail to help the nail grow. Orly Nail Defense is more like a top coat that may or may not have all the goodness of Nailtiques (I wouldn’t know since the writing on the bottle is teeny tiny) and you need to keep it applied to see results because once you take off nail Defense the nails go back to being what they were.

Company Description: “Nails that are soft, peeling, split or just will not grow will see marked improvement when treated with Formula 2. This formula consists of a unique blend of protein and conditioners. The protein immediately acts to help bond nails that are splitting or peeling. Formula 2 also helps to strengthen the nail resulting in long, strong and healthy nails.”

So here is what I have to say about this particular product: So far, it is amazing! I’ve been using this for one week  and a few days and I see a difference in my nails. They are definitely stronger and they don’t bend. Because they don’t bend or peel my nails have grown pretty fast within that week. I definitely feel something happening to my nails when I apply the product. It feels like my nails warm up when I apply it. So something is happening there!

You apply a thin coat to the nails every day(like a base coat) for one week, then you remove it after 7 days and repeat.  The formula is really thin so as you apply more coats the nail and the coats aren’t super thick, which means the coats don’t peel. This can be used with or without polish, although it is suggested that the initial week of use you use this alone. The sales associate told me, and was very adamant, that this is only to be applied ONCE a day. She said she applied it twice in one day and her nails started burning. I can see that happening since my nails warm up a bit with just one coat. It’s not an uncomfortable feeling but it’s there. One thing that bothers me with this is product, there is Tosylamide Formaldehyde Resin. Researching on numerous websites they say it’s not toxic because “the chemical process used to make this resin completely changes the structure of Formaldehyde so that it is present in very minimal concentrations”. I am still bothered by this but I will still use this until I find something more natural. Can’t win them all I guess.

After taking the coats off after my initial week my nails didn’t bend and didn’t feel weak. I am super excited about this product and I can’t wait to see my nails a month from now(given I don’t get lazy and start slacking).

What is your nail care routine? Are your nails weak, dry or are they just fine? Please share your thoughts! 🙂

My grade for Nailtiques Formula 2:  A
