Model of the Day- On the Set

Almost a month ago, I worked my first official music video shoot for the very talented, Soulful group B.O.S.S and it was an excellent opportunity to see what happens on set, to learn the process of keeping everyone looking sharp and beautiful throughout the day and to work with beautiful, amazing talents including Tammie Lee of TamiVision who is a brilliant makeup artist. She was the head makeup artist for the shoot and I learned a lot from her in the hours spent together. I helped and worked some magic on the backup singer. As soon as I saw her, I instantly thought Foxy Brown with her perfect afro and flawless skin. I love natural hair on ladies, I really wish I could rock it! I guess I’m just too lazy, because I really don’t have the patience. You would think natural hair would be easier to deal with! But I digress. I had so much fun working with the group and watching them perform. They really are very talented. Check out the work of B.O.S.S and Tammie Lee.

Athletic Face of the Day- Gabby Douglas

image

I thought I’d do a feature on the lovely Olympic Athletes of 2012. I have enjoyed every single moment of the games and I’m sad to see them go away until 2016. All the athletes were amazing, beautiful and represented well. I’m super late on this and I probably should’ve been doing this throughout the games instead of waiting the day before the closing ceremonies, but oh well! The idea just came to me so I wanna showcase my favorite Oymoic athletes from these games!

My First athletic face of the day is the beautiful Gabby Douglas, making history as the first African American Olympic all around champion. Her smile is so captivating, genuine and lovely. Her poise and athleticism is so graceful she can’t help but be watched, admired and enjoyed. She’s been getting a lot of press, not because of her 2 gold medals and history making performance but because of her hair! When I googled her name “Gabby Douglas Hair” was the first to pop up, not even her name. How shallow can people be?! Is this the hair Olympics? Is she being judged on how straight her hair can get? Come on people! And the things people say are so mean and uncalled for. People hide behind their computers and post negativity because they know they won’t be found. What’s the point? People have issues beyond repair that stems from jealously and hatred(blatant or in the closet). I feel that if you have an issue with something, don’t watch and shut your mouth! Simple as that! It just makes me so angry when people talk about and judge things they can’t understand and they don’t even try to understand. Look at the bigger picture, not the minor details. Hair is hair but history is forever. Suck on that gold medal!
Sorry if I turned this into my personal rant but I had to get that out!

Look of the Day-We Can Do It!

I’ve been wearing my hair differently the past week. I hate doing hair, I just don’t have the patience, especially with my hair. It’s so thick I get frustrated halfway through styling it. I’ve been trying to figure out a way to wear my hair naturally that didn’t look weird to me and make me want to shave my hair out of frustration. I’m trying to embrace my natural hair but I’m so used to wearing my hair straight and anything other than straight just looks weird to me. I love it on others ladies though. I just can’t work it!  So I decided to play my hair up with a scarf and style it from there. This hair style kinda just came together. I’ve always admired and loved those “We Can Do It” posters. They’re so empowering! We’ve certainly come a long way ladies! So maybe I had that in the back of my mind but the style is very old school,1940’s-ish. I really like this style. With my makeup, I was going for neutral but honestly didn’t have this in mind. Then I looked at it when finished and I loved how it came out. It all came together full circle! Hope you like it! I love it!

Look of the Day- Emily Blunt inspired look

Hi Beauties! I haven’t done a look or a post for some time for many reasons, mostly because I just haven’t been focused or inspired to create anything. Doing anything creative, if you’re not inspired or focused you’re just not going to get anything done. Hopefully I am coming out of that funk and start back doing what I love!

I was sitting in the doctors office reading a magazine and I came across this ad featuring Emily Blunt and I was instantly in love with her look. Her look is just so sultry and beautiful I had to recreate this look. So I ripped the page from the already destroyed magazine and studied it.

I did two variations, one that’s brighter, more gold that’s suitable for a daytime look. Then I just added more black liner and black eyeshadow to my lash line and crease to make it more Smokey, suitable for a night out. Easy from day to night look. I didn’t add lashes but adding lashes will make the eyes more dramatic and sultry. Hope you like it! Comments are always welcome and appreciated!

Mac Electric Cool Eyeshadow

image

These new eyeshadows from Mac are very interesting. They’re like a powder, cream hybrid. It doesn’t have the feel or consistency of a cream eyeshadow like a paint pot or an aqua cream yet it’s definitely not a powder eyeshadow. I wasn’t interested in the Big Bounce Eyeshadows that came out some months ago so I can’t really compare the two but from what I tested in the store, the Electric Cool shadows give a more even coverage, are more smooth in texture and gives a better wear time.

The texture of these eyeshadows are like when you press into a squishy pillow or mattress..that’s the only what I can describe them. They aren’t wet but they look wet and creamy. It’s like wet pigments without the wet feeling. The colors are pretty bold with lots of shimmer. One thing I love about these is that despite having a lot of shimmer/glitter, there’s no fallout issues with eyeshadows.  One thing that annoyed me was one of my shadows looked cracked and melted when I opened it. The associates at the store said some pots may look like the one shown below but you can reshape them by pressing them back into place with your fingers. But for me, when I buy something new I want it to look new. Thank God for Mac’s excellent return policy. I exchanged this with no problem. If you’re anal like me with these things I’d check your product before purchasing just to be safe.

Brilliantly Lit: I opened the box and found this.

Fashion Circuit

The shades:
Brilliantly Lit is pretty shimmery yellow chartreuse color.
Fashion Circuit is a gorgeous green teal color.
Superwatt is a gorgeous shimmery Taupe color. It’s a beautiful neutral everyday color.

I like the packaging these come in. They aren’t the usual Mac eyeshadow pots that flip open and closed. The pot is a lot smoother with a twist off top. I really like these pots better maybe because I like novelty.

Application can be a bit of a pain. Finding a go to way to apply takes some time. The eyeshadow apply better with a synthetic flat brush, like the Mac 242 or the like. With a natural hair brush or a fluffy brush, it doesn’t pack the color on the lid because the brush doesn’t pick up enough color. I also got pretty good color applying with my fingers but this took more work than I’d like. During the testing phase I used these with and without eye primers. I was pretty impressed that the color lasted about 4 or 5 hours without an eye primer and the color didn’t fade much. I actually liked how this applied over the Nars Smudgeproof primer. The color went on really smooth and even. With a paint pot I thought the color was a bit uneven but still pretty. However I do not like two or three Electric Cool shadows blended together because it was a bit trying to get them to blend smoothly. I feel they are best used alone as a wash of color, maybe using a different texture shadow with the ECS’s to create some depth.

Overall I liked the Electric Cool Eyeshadows, though not in love with them. The colors are bright and lovely but they lose some points for the application. The texture is interesting, though a bit gimmicky, but its a nice addition to the collection. By no means a must have but they’re fun. These are perfect for a nice shimmery lid for a night out. I’d never thought I’d say this but you really don’t need a primer with these, but it also wouldn’t hurt.  Just put on a nice wash of color with a synthetic brush or your fingers, add liner and mascara and you’re good to go!
