Eyeshadow Palette

I love a good range of neutral eyeshadows so when I saw this Limited Edition palette in Sephora and knew I had to have it. I didn’t get it right away because I have been trying to cut back on makeup buying but then I became obsessed with this palette. All I could think about was getting this palette Can you see why? It’s so lovely!  I’ve never tired Nars eyeshadows so I thought this set would be perfect for me. You get 6 shades of neutrals(2 mattes, 2 with shimmer and two with sheen), a mini brush and a mini smudgeproof primer; Not bad for $59, in my opinion. The eye shades are Alhambra, Bellisima, Kalahari, Galapagos, Coconut Grove, Night Clubbing. I bought it primarily for Galapagos and Coconut Grove but I love all the shades in the palette.

I love how compact this is. It’s so easy to travel with this; it fits perfectly in my travel bag when I’m going light and I can create easy looks for the day or evening.

I have only seen this at Sephora. It’s not on the Nars site so I think it’s a Sephora exclusive. It’s still available if you want a good solid eye palette. The shades are super pigmented and smooth. No dryness with these babies.

Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer

Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer

I was looking for something to use daily for SPF purposes. I thought I’d try this since I’ve read a lot of good reviews. I must say it delivers nicely. I’ve been using this tinted moisturizer for about 2 months now and I really like it. It’s the best tinted moisturizer I’ve tried. Laura Mercier gave me nice coverage but was too thick, and Mac broke me out. Nars Tinted moisturizer provides a natural, dewy finish. I really like the finish. Even with my oil skin, my skin doesn’t look oily or greasy. The consistency is pretty thin but provides really nice coverage and it feels nice on the skin. I don’t feel like I’m wearing anything. Sometimes I might add some concealer under my eyes or if I have blemishes since this is not a foundation. I use this daily and it lasts my full work day, 6 hours. I might need to touch up with some powder if I’m going out after work or something and It looks fresh again on me.

It’s a broad spectrum SPF 3o tinted moisturizer so It’s ideal for good sun protection. The product is supposed to even out your skin tone and help with skin issues. It might help the skin but I don’t see any change in my skin. I have noticed that I sometimes breakout in the same area(around my nose) since I’ve been using this and I’m not sure if it’s the product or just my skin acting crazy. However I’m not breaking out all over which is why I’m still using it.

There are a nice variety of shades and I bet there is something for everyone. For Reference I am NC 45 in Mac, 175 in MUFE. This shade is Martinique med/dark 3. The med/dark 2 was pretty nice too but It would’ve been way too light when Summer hits. #3 had a bit more red to it.

Have you tried Nars tinted moisturizer? How do you like it?
If not, what do you wear daily?

Nars Satin Lip Pencil

Hello Beautiful people. I’ve been MIA for, crap almost 2 months? I just got busy with life stuff, school stuff and then I get hit with the flu…Just a lot going on over here! I have missed being online, reading and posting now I’m back! I missed everyone so much!

I went to the Makeup Show here in LA on Saturday and It was so much fun and informative! I Got some new stuff for my kit, got some goodies for my personal stash, got some good info on how to get more work. It was a good day to be with so many people with the same purpose and good energy. The makeup show is always so fun and such a positive experience.

I was SUPER excited to see that Nars was at the show this year! This was their first year here. AND I was excited to learn they now have a store in LA now! YAY! I have such a love hate relationship with Nars because I really do love most of their products but they are so expensive! You get what you pay for though. I’m rarely disappointed with their products!

Nars Satin Lip Pencils in Majella and Luxembourg

Nars Satin Lip Pencils in Majella and Luxembourg

Nars have these new Satin Lip Pencils coming out later this week, that I was able to test and grab some at the makeup show before they were released and I absolutely LOVE these! I love bright lip shades, especially reds, because my go to look is usually something soft and neutral on the eyes, so these shades caught my eyes. This product has the ease and control of a lip pencil with the feel of a lipstick. It’s basically a lipstick pencil. It’s so amazing. The colors are vibrant, the texture is super soft and the product glides on effortlessly. When applying, the pencil didn’t tug at my lips and I ran the pencil over my lips twice on top and twice on the bottom(back and forth) to get full coverage.

When I applied the color, it went on really smooth and felt and looked like a gloss but after about 20 minutes or so the color turned to a satin finish. It actually looked almost matte. The product isn’t drying at all and it didn’t emphasize lines on the lips. The product also felt a bit moisturizing to my lips.

The shade Luxembourg, a beautiful pinky red that wore for at least 5 hours. The color was still strong after hours of drinking from my water bottle and there was a strong tint/stain of color after eating. Luxembourg is so gorgeous, words and pictures doesn’t do it justice. I got so many compliments wearing this. And It’s just so vibrant and in your face. PERFECT for Spring and Summer. This shade actually reminded me of one the Mac Marilyn lipsticks, the Pinkish red shade- I think It was Charmed, I’m Sure? Maybe Love Goddess? Anyhow I don’t own the MAC lipstick because it sold out in like 10 minutes(I’m still a little sore about that) but from what I tested in the store and from memory I’d say the two are similar.

Nars Satin Lip Pencil Majella

The Shade Majella is a darker red, like a wine color. This shade also left a nice stain after the real color faded away. I applied this on a friend and she loved it! This is a nice going out red. It’s a very bold color, vibrant but not too dark. It’s not a dark red. Those who feel they can’t wear red lipstick or are not too confident to try one, I always recommend trying a wine color because they aren’t too bright. This would be a nice beginning red for someone who wants to try a red lip color.

There are other shades from the Satin Lip Pencil range and these are a nice edition to the Velvet Matte and Velvet Gloss Lip Pencils(I have not tried those yet so I can’t compare them). I am so excited to try the other Satin Pencils and I will definitely be trying more. I Highly Recommend these if you love colorful lips.

What’s your favorite Lip color and brand? Have you tried any of the Nars lip Pencils?

Nars Desire Blush

I’ve been on a Nars kick lately. I’ve been going through my makeup and I’m falling in love with certain products again. So here we go again!!

Nars Desire Blush is described as a delicate bright pink. It’s like a cotton candy pink. This blush is good to give a nice pink flush to the cheeks. This blush shows beautifully as a nice ‘baby it’s cold outside’ or a ‘I just had a great workout’ flush. For my medium to darker skin beauties, don’t think this won’t work for you because it’s pink. I was one who used to think, ‘well it’s pink it’s only for lighter skin ladies’. On the contrary, because it’s not a pale pink, this is GORGEOUS on you as well! Used lightly it adds great color to liven up the skin. Another gorgeous blush from Nars, worth the splurge if you’re looking for one!

This blush is matte so there’s not a trace of shimmer in it. Although it’s matte it’s not chalky. It’s so smooth and super pigmented, like most of Nars’ powder blushes. Because it’s high in pigment a light hand is needed. Apply the blush lightly then build it up to your desire(no pun intended). It’s so much easier to add color than to take color away.

I wore this color for about 5 hours before I noticed it starting to fade. There was still color present, like a stain, but not as strong as when I first applied. The stain looks pretty actually.  About 2 hours later, 7 hours in all, there was a little less color, almost non-existent.

Quick Review:

Product: 5 stars; the texture and feel of this blush is beautiful and smooth. The brighness of the blush gives a brightness to the skin and the pigmentation is excellent.  The wear time is also nice, roughly about 7-8 hours before the blush was completely gone. Pretty damn good for a powder blush!

Packaging: 5 stars; cute and compact packaging that can be stored easily. Not bulky. And with the handy mirror It’s good if you need to apply in a pinch.

Price: 3 1/2 stars; the price goes up a bit too often for my taste. I thought the blushes were a good value when they were $26 but now, at $28, not so much. It’s excellent but I don’t think they need to be so expensive. The more hype they get the more they go up. Really nice if you’re looking to spend some money. I’ll wait for the sales!

Nars Dolce Vita Lip Gloss

I thought I should do a review on some makeup today! (*sigh*Oh makeup)

Nars Dolce Vita Lipgloss is described as a dusty rose. As some may, or may not know, lip color shows up differently on everyone’s lips depending on the natural color of their lips. For instance, a lip color will look different on someone with slightly darker lips than someone with pinker lips. Then of course skin undertones come into play, those with cooler skin tones can rock a color where on a warmer skin tone could look god awful.

Again I digress! On my lips this color comes off as a nice, warm mauve color. The gloss is subtle but can be built up to be darker or layered with a liner or lipstick to make it more bold. The texture is very light, creamy and soft. It feels good on the lips and I forget I have anything on my lips. It is a non sticky formula, something I love because the sticky glosses drive me nuts sometimes. For a gloss, this color gives great color. Just as much, if not more, as a sheer lipstick. Good for natural makeup or everyday use. I got about 4 or 5 hours of wear time before the color was fading. I didn’t eat or drink anything during this time so I would assume one wouldn’t get this wear time if they needed to eat or drink. My lips also still felt soft and somewhat moisturized around the 4th and 5th hour.

I hate the smell of this product though. It has a plastic smell to it that is very unappealing to me. All Nars’ lipglosses have this scent. I remember when I first tried it at the counter some years ago and I got a little nauseous by the scent.(I’m sure this doesn’t happen to everyone, this is my initial experience, but I am smell sensitive. I smell my food before eating. LOL)Even when put on the lips the smell lingers a bit. I really wish they had put some kind of essential oil like vanilla, orange or something to give it a more desirable scent. There is lanolin and castor oil in this and that’s exactly what it smells like. But again I loved the texture of it because its non sticky. So I kept trying, thinking the scent would somehow get better. It didn’t but I eventually bought a few during the last Sephora friends and family sale. The scent took some time to get used to but it’s not awful to me anymore.

The price was also an issue for me. Where it wasn’t insanely expensive like Chanel or Guerlain(both exceptional brands but out of my price range), it was high enough for me at $24 a pop. So if this is out if your price range and you’re interested, I recommend checking it out when there’s a sale. I’m a firm believer in you get what you pay for(mostly). That’s why I wait for the sales! LOL

Just a side note: InStyle Magazine voted Nars Dolce Vita lip gloss best gloss for medium to dark skin tones in April 2009 for their annual Best in Beauty list. I agree that it looks very flattering on these skin tones!

My rating of the product(consisting of the texture, the formula, wear time, color pay off) I’d give it 4 stars. It is a really good gloss(though slightly overrated) so I think my lip gloss fans will enjoy this.
